Milk and Eggs are two popular groceries competing with each other all over the world and states of the USA are not an exception.

In two states: New York and California Eggs come before Milk, while in other three – Texas, Florida and Illinois – Milk is more loved. In Florida even Bread comes before Eggs.

Bananas stay as the most preferred fruit in most states, being extremely fast eaten in Illinois.

Another fruit – Apple – is eaten in California and New York more often than in Texas or Florida. In New York Apples are even more popular than Bananas.

California loves avocados. It takes 8th place out of 10 while in other states no avocados appear in the Top 10 at all.

Carrots are in the Top 10 in Illinois and New York. Celery appears only in Illinois among the Top 10 groceries. Illinois seems to stand out with its unusual grocery shopping habits.

Potatoes take 6th place in Florida while four other states do not have potatoes among the Top 10 groceries added to a list.

What about meat? Is it evenly eaten in different states? The answer is no. Different states prefer different types of meat. So, Texas, New York and California eat Chicken as the most of the world, Illinois eats Bacon instead of Chicken and Florida loves both.

Regardless of the fact that butter takes the second place in dairy produce consumed in the USA butter is added to grocery lists only in New York and Texas.

Yogurt is in the Top in Illinois and California only.

Paper towels are in the Top 10 only in Texas. Very interesting why other states don’t take advantage of paper that often.

Toilet paper is also not that popular among different states. Only two states of five – Texas and Florida – add it to their lists among Top 10 products.

Who said Australians are the most meat-eating nation? Based on “Buy Me a Pie!” stats, 48% of Australians’ grocery lists are full with various kinds of vegetables and fruits, while meat’s part is only 12%.

There were some researches carried out to learn what nation eats more meat and there was a big competition between USA and Australia before Australia shot ahead. We decided to check out if this is true for our customers.

We found out that both nations are way green lovers. The USA customers are likely to add some onions on the list instead of a chicken pack. Yet, meat takes 12% of the list in Australia and only 8% in the USA. So, the researches were true Australians eat more meat than the Americans yet not as often as both nations eat vegetables and fruits.

Chicken is the most popular meat around the globe. 36% of users’ shopping lists contain chicken as the main meat type.

40% of the world prefers tomatoes over cucumbers, onions and potatoes. Only people in Denmark have cucumbers on one of top places in their shopping lists.

As for fruits everyone eats bananas and apples. These two only are present in the top 25 groceries in users lists.

Dairy produce does not vary a lot as well. Milk is a top dairy product in all of the shopping lists. Second place among dairy produce takes butter. Cheese and yogurt take the second place only in two countries: Sweden and Canada respectively.

What time and day do you usually go shopping? Does your friend or neighbour come along with you? Maybe even the nearest country goes shopping just at the same time like you. And what about the whole globe? Maybe everyone on the planet shops at the same time.

Did you ever wonder if there are any differences in shopping habits around the globe? We at “Buy Me a Pie!” knew there definitely should be some differences and we found them in our stats as well as similarities.

We present here two days of a week which are the busiest with crossing off items in the “Buy Me a Pie!” shopping list app for each of 10 countries. Each day is broken into hours to show one or two hours a day which are the busiest with shopping.

So, we got that almost the whole world goes shopping on Sunday and Monday at 11AM and 12PM.

Why do our users prefer shopping on Sunday and Monday? Why don’t they shop that much on Wednesday? Look, the Wednesday block is empty at all.

Brazil shops on Tuesday while Friday is for shopping in Russia and Canada besides the Sunday shopping. Germany, Italy and Spain shop on Saturday as well as on Monday. Spain goes shopping also on Thursday.

Monday is for shopping in the USA, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Australia and Sweden. Sunday shopping is usual for the USA, Russia, Canada, Denmark, Brazil, Australia and Sweden.

And what was a surprise, the most active hours happen to be 11AM and 12PM. Four of ten countries shop at 11AM and other three prefer shopping at noon. Only Canada, Denmark and Spain shop in the evening. It was possible to distinguish one active hour for all of the countries except for Brazil and Sweden. These countries shop twice a day: in the morning and in the evening.

What makes people from all over the world shop at the same time? Presumably, it is an intention to save time and money. Most people shop once a week and buy groceries in bulk and it happens to be the start or the end of a week.

Why do some countries shop on days other than Sundays and Mondays? Why do some shop in the morning while others prefer going to a store in the evening? We can only guess that this is some kind of habits and traditions. And by the way we all are bound by some rules and schedules.

English is the most commonly used language among foreign language speakers. Throughout the world, when people with different languages come together they commonly use English to communicate. We always knew that. And what about languages which are used for shopping in different countries? We decided to shed some light here by analysing the “Buy Me a Pie!” users.

So, we analysed top 10 countries by number of total users only to prove the statement: English is the most commonly used language. All top 10 countries speak English besides their native languages.

The second popular language is Spanish. Third place share Russian and German being presented in 6 different countries. Fourth is French and fifth is Italian.

Being inspired with this data we decided to analyse also how many languages speak inhabitants of our top 10 countries and got this:

United States uses 8 different languages for shopping management. Germany has shopping lists in 7 different languages. Canada and Spain – in 6. Italy, Denmark and Sweden have their lists in 4 different languages and Russia, Brazil and Australia – only in 3. In the pic above languages are placed by frequency of use from top to bottom.
